Nike / The Chosen

I am a Nike fan boy. Also have spent a lot of time in action sports personally and professional. They have always been a bit of an odd fit but given their scale and street cred it kind of worked. But everyone in the half-pipe and waves always felt they bought their way into the sports rather than earned from the ground up.

The best Nike driven work is insight driven, and it brings to life athletes and their sports we are familiar with in unfamiliar ways.

This action sport work is neither. The culture of action sports still (apart from the X-Games) lives in videos. The best doing their best. This film is just another short action sport film, but a bit naff. It is trying a bit too hard, feels very expected.

I would love if Nike took the insight approach from other sports and cracked a killer thought in the action sport space. A look into the types of folks and what pushes them to push themselves. Sports whose primary rules are mother nature's and Darwin's not referees.

Where I love The Pool (http://brettmacfarlane.posterous.com/the-pool-full-story-from-nike-60)

This film leaves me wanting more, a lot more. Mostly because the action sports world is so ripe for something great.
